Shutterstockīut for some restaurant operators, the concessions are far from sufficient. Some restaurants feel they have no choice but to work with major delivery platforms. And even before the pandemic, some restaurants were able to negotiate lower rates. DoorDash rolled out a new product, DoorDash Storefront, that helps restaurants set up their own online stores and charges a flat fee instead of a per-order commission. Grubhub, which merged with Seamless, lets restaurants decide whether or not to use their own drivers. They also have a variety of options for restaurant operators to give them more control.Īn Uber Eats spokesperson pointed out that though the service charges 30% per order for delivery, in areas where the company can legally do so, that fee falls to 15% if restaurants use their own drivers and disappears for pickup orders. In New York City, third-party apps can charge an additional 5% for other fees, for 20% in total.Īnd delivery services themselves have not been deaf to the plight of restaurants, which are a key part of their own businesses.ĭuring the crisis, some delivery operators temporarily reduced charges to help ease the burden on restaurants. In Denver, New York City, Los Angeles and elsewhere, officials voted to enact a pandemic-related emergency 15% cap on third-party delivery fees. To help restaurants with the pain that some apps might cause, cities across the country have started limiting the fees that delivery apps can charge restaurants. A report released by market research firm Technomic and Uber Eats in July found a 27% jump in restaurant operators using third-party delivery services since mid-March, when some municipalities went into lockdown. And like them or not, restaurants joined delivery platforms in droves: During a May conference call with analysts, Grubhub CEO Matt Maloney mentioned that many new restaurants have signed up for its services since the pandemic reached the United States. Since the pandemic hit, forcing Americans to stay home and restaurants across the country to limit capacity or close their doors entirely, delivery has become a lifeline. Many restaurants are finding themselves tied to delivery services they hate, without a clear path out.ĭelivery has never mattered to restaurants as much as it does now. Those efforts are helping, but they’re not enough to tip the scale. So restaurants are coming up with alternatives to help complement the big players, like perks for customers who order directly and DIY delivery services. And if they choose to outsource delivery to these platforms, restaurants also hand off valuable customer data and control over how delivery orders show up at their customers doors.ĭelivery has become a lifeline for restaurants during the pandemic Alexi Rosenfeld/Getty Images But profit margins in the restaurant industry are often razor-thin, so these fees can wipe out the restaurant’s profits or put them in the red. But before we can start we need to analyze the game. If you recall from class, when inventing UML, the Three Amigos started with something that was called Object Oriented Analysis and Object Oriented Design. (However, I had students who did not know it, so in case you don't please learn about it and play it for a little before continuing with this lab). Actors never turn into objects, actors are always outside the system, hence the Tetris example below is much better. Important Note: the restaurant example actually is not a very good example, because it may give you the impression that actors become objects. Look at the classes generated and compare them with your model. In StarUML you right-click with your mouse in the class diagram, and select 'Generate Code'. Once you are done with the class diagram, try out the 'Generate Code' feature. Take the restaurant example from class and create all the different UML diagrams we created in class using StarUML or your favorite UML modelling tool. To learn how to use objectiF, take a look at their tutorial. Lab 1b: objectiF (30 min) Īnother UML modelling tool, which is free for personal use is objectiF. More details can be found at the following StarUML Tutorial. After that you can create all kinds of UML diagrams by right-clicking on the model. Then in the Model Explorer add a new model by right-clicking on the ’untitled’ thing. Start StarUML, and select ’Empty Project’ at the startup. A small disadvantage is that it is no longer supported, hence it is limited to Java 1.4 and C# 2.0, which is very unfortunate. StarUML is a free UML modelling tool that is quite powerful, it allows for forward and reverse engineering. We need to learn about a UML modelling tool. ![]() 4/2/2023 0 Comments Steam ultimate chicken horse![]() ![]() From this moment begins a cool adventure. Nothing about it felt right. So, I enrolled in a health coaching program, got certified, and changed my entire website (complete with brand new professional photos). In a similar vein to the above lesson, clarity comes from execution. What one step could you take outside your comfort zone that would bring you more confidence? The more scary things you do, the more confident you become. By doing that scary, out-of-your-comfort-zone thing, you become confident. Well here’s the truth: you don’t have confidence before you do something scary. I’ve always been described as “confident,” and people in my life have always asked me how to be confident themselves. If you take a step back, what could be available to you? Think about where you’re limiting your options. It was hard, I made maybe a quarter (okay, maybe a fifth) of what I did in my hospital job, but it was another option. I thought that job was my only option until I did some soul searching and decided to work in my coaching business full time. Is there a pattern? What creates this? Is the amplitude larger at some places than others? Have a look at what is happening to the right of the slits. ![]() The experiment is named after the guy who first carried it out – Young’s double slit experiment. What happens if there are two or more slits? We’ll end up with two or more diffracting waves, which we might expect to interfere with one another.īelow is a simulation of diffraction through two slits. So far we’ve only considered the case of a single slit or gap for the wave to pass through. The video below shows how you can use this method to work out how wavefronts are altered by a slit.ĭiffraction Through Two Slits Young’s Experiment For example – if you dropped a number of pebbles in a straight line, all in one go at exactly the same time, a straight (in science-speak plane) wavefront would be created. These wavelets superimpose and interfere to form more complicated wavefronts. A wavelet can be described as a circular wave much like the ripple you would get from dropping a small pebble into a pond. Huygens argued that a wavefront could be modelled as a series of wavelets. One way to explain diffraction is to use a mathematical method invented by 17th century physicist Christiaan Huygens. When the gap size is smaller than the wavelength (top movie), more diffraction occurs and the waves spread out greatly – the wavefronts are almost semicircular. ![]() When the gap width is larger than the wavelength (bottom movie), the wave passes through the gap and does not spread out much on the other side. slit is narrower than the wavelength Gap width = two wavelengths i.e. When the size of the gap changes, how does this change the diffraction of the wave? When does maximum diffraction occur? (Think about your previous findings on the diffraction of sound around an obstacle). The difference between the movies is the size of the gap. ![]() This is shown in the two animations below. Diffraction also occurs when a wave passes through a gap (or slit) in a barrier. ![]() ![]() ![]() You can pair it with any setting powder to get matte finish but the finish looks very natural without any powder. Wet n Wild Photo Focus Dewy Face Primer is launching now at drugstores and n Wild Photo Focus Foundation Swatch and Blended My Thoughts I think I’ll make use of it in the summer by mixing it with a lightweight moisturizer, applying all over my skin, and following up with a touch of cheek stain. I thought it was a little overkill for me as it’s a little too much glow but if you typically use products like this to prep you might just enjoy it. A smaller needle nose tip would have been much better. ![]() I did struggle a little with the large opening which spurted out a lot of product out. ![]() It’s also quite affordable at five dollars and a little goes a long way which makes it cost efficient. It should be suitable for most skin types. I wouldn’t say the finish was dewy though nor did it add shine or greasiness to my face. But it does wear well under foundation and aids the application of it since it does have a dewy finish which makes foundation glide on easier. I wouldn’t say it extends the wear of makeup nor does it mask imperfections like visible pores. You might wish to either use a very small amount or mix it with moisturizer for less glow and more luminosity since it is quite pigmented on its own. It’s a beige champagne shade which adds a good deal of glow to skin once applied. The texture is thick yet slightly runny and it absorbs very quickly into the skin. I’m not into it sadly for reasons I described above. ![]() Wet n Wild Photo Focus Dewy Face Primer is going to be a product you either really, really love or really, really hate. I’m of the mentality that a touch of glow is lovely but glowing all over my face not so much. It’s like shining a strobe light on my face. I have a full face and I always feel like using moisturizers with mica or primers with shimmer, etc…end up making my fuller face even more full. I was obviously not paying attention when I purchased this as I thought it was a hydrating facial primer as dewy translated as moisturizing to me. Offer syncing, both to mobile devices and other computers. An ugly, hard-to-read user interface was a hard no. Daily, weekly, monthly, and agenda views should all be offered, and they should all be easy to parse. Calendars are only useful if you can actually see what you have coming up, so the ideal calendar app needs to be easy to arrange however you prefer. Make it quick to see your schedule at a glance. Natural language processing, which allows you to add appointments by typing something like "Drop off dog at the vet Monday at 5pm," is a big plus here. Ideally, you only need to click one button or use a keyboard shortcut to start typing and add an appointment. If you can't add something to your calendar in a few seconds, you're much less likely to keep it updated. Speed is everything when it comes to a calendar.
